As I previously mentioned I have been following a lot of blogs lately. Well I tripped over a blog by a woman who deals with infertility. And she had written this quote, which she picked up from a television show.
"Compassion doesn't mean feeling sorry for people. It doesn't mean pity. It means putting yourself in the position of the other, learning about the other. Learning what's motivating the other, learning about their grievances."
I think a lot of what is wrong with our world is a lack of this type of compassion. There are too many people who cannot put themselves in another's shoes. Too many people who simply don't care to look at things from any other way but their own. I make it a point to try and do both of these things as much as possible. No one is perfect, including myself, but if more people attempted to empathize and explore others feelings and motivations I think the world would be a better place.
